What PlayCortex is Today
PlayCortex v1 is an athlete-first mental analytics platform. The current build consists of two things: the published athlete stories in Section 02, and the twenty-question situational mentality test in Section 03. We surface patterns across five axes — pressure control, setback handling, athletic identity attachment, high-stakes performance delta, and intrinsic drive depth.
What PlayCortex is Not
1. It is not a clinical tool. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace care from a qualified psychologist, psychiatrist, or doctor.
2. It is not a selection tool. Coaches, academies, and selectors should not use a PlayCortex result as the basis for any selection or rejection decision.
3. It is not a final answer. The situational mentality test is a snapshot. It is meant to start a conversation, not end one
RESEARCH BASIS AND LIMITS
The test draws on established constructs in sport psychology: the Athletic Identity Measurement Scale (AIMS) work on identity attachment, the choking-under-pressure literature on attentional control in high-stakes execution, grounded theory work on psychological resilience in elite athletes, qualitative research on clutch performance states, and self-determination theory on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The five papers our architecture is most directly built on are listed below.
Here are the five hyperlinks, in axis order:
Identity attachment — Brewer, Van Raalte & Linder (1993): https://psycnet.apa.org/record/1994-11096-001
Pressure control — Beilock & Carr (2001): https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/releases/xge-1304701.pdf
Setback handling — Fletcher & Sarkar (2012): https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1469029212000477
High-stakes delta — Swann, Crust, Jackman, Vella, Allen & Keegan (2017): https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27981877/
Intrinsic drive — Ryan & Deci (2000): https://selfdeterminationtheory.org/SDT/documents/2000_RyanDeci_SDT.pdf
That said, all psychometric tools have limits. Self-report instruments capture how an athlete sees themselves on a given day, which is not always how they actually behave under pressure. Twenty questions cannot fully describe a human being. Your context, culture, age, sport, and current life phase all influence your responses. We surface these results with that humility.
YOUR DATA
1.You own your data. Always.
2. We process your inputs to generate your archetype and axis read.
3. Aggregate, anonymised patterns may inform product research. Identifiable data is never sold.
4. If you take the test as a guest, results are session-only and discarded when you close the tab.
5. If you take it from a registered account, you can export or permanently delete your results at any time.
ATHLETE STORIES ON THIS PAGE
The athletes featured in Section 02 have signed individual written consent permitting PlayCortex to publish their first name, sport, age bracket, and a curated excerpt from their interviews. They retain the right to withdraw consent and request removal at any time. Withdrawal is honoured within seven working days.
IF SOMETHING IN THE TEST BRINGS UP DIFFICULT FEELINGS
The situational mentality test asks honest questions about pressure, identity, setbacks, and motivation. For some athletes, those questions can surface real distress. If at any point you feel overwhelmed, please pause the test and consider speaking with a qualified sport psychologist or mental health professional. In India, iCall (9152987821) and Vandrevala Foundation (1860-2662-345) operate confidential helplines. PlayCortex does not currently provide in-platform psychologist access.
LIMITATIONS
PlayCortex provides insight, not selection decisions. We do not guarantee performance outcomes, contracts, or results. The platform is one input among many in an athlete's development.
